Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

We’re very excited about our bioidentical hormone replacement therapy program and its effectiveness in relieving some of the challenging symptoms of aging and menopause. Today, let’s answer the questions our clients typically ask in hopes of better defining this important therapy.

First, what are hormones exactly and what do they do?

Hormones (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, etc.) are inner regulatory substances secreted by the endocrine glands that telegraph signals to other parts of the body and affect such processes as growth and development, sexual function, reproduction and mood.

Who is hormone therapy for?

As women age, hormone levels naturally decline. Many women explore the idea of hormone therapy as the symptoms of perimenopause or menopause begin to affect one’s sense of well-being. The challenges can be a combination of physical and mental symptoms. Mental changes can result in difficulty sleeping at night and/or daytime fatigue, a reduced sense of concentration and memory as well as terrible mood swings. Physical symptoms of a hormone deficiency can include hot flashes, weight gain, poor muscle strength and low libido. Hormone therapy can help reset the balance, resulting in better energy and sleep, weight loss and improved physical health. Hormone balancing can even help reduce some signs of aging, keeping you looking and feeling younger.

What are bioidentical hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are plant-based hormones designed to mimic the natural hormones in decline. They are specifically engineered to match what your body once produced.

What are the benefits of bioidentical hormones vs. synthetic hormones?

In the past, traditional hormone replacement therapy used hormones that neared but did not match the same chemical structure as a woman’s natural hormone composition. The discrepancy caused unpleasant side effects. Then studies in 2002 revealed that hormone replacement therapy posed health risks as well, such as an increased risk of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Bioidentical hormones, on the other hand, use plant–based materials to replicate the exact molecular structure of naturally produced hormones, resulting in a hormone that functions better than synthetic forms, with little to no side effects.
