Thyroid Optimization

The thyroid controls how your body’s cells use energy from food, a process called metabolism. Among other things, your metabolism affects your body’s temperature, your heartbeat, and how well you burn calories. The primary thyroid hormones are triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). T4 is mostly inactive and converts into the active thyroid hormone T3. Thyroid imbalances occur when your thyroid produces too few or too many of these hormones, or is unable to convert the T4 hormone into the active T3 hormone. Thyroid hormones are the key regulator of the metabolism.

Symptoms of Thyroid Imbalance include:

  • Fatigue

  • Weight gain

  • Skin dryness

  • Constipation

  • Heavy menstrual cycles

  • Sensitivity to cold

  • Hair loss

If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism, Dr. Bloch will check the levels of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in your blood. If your laboratory tests are consistent with hypothyroidism, he will prescribe an appropriate dose of supplemental thyroid hormone and frequently monitor and adjust your dose based on both laboratory assessment and through your ongoing feedback about how you feel. If you’d like to feel energized, lose weight and be healthier, contact Dr. Dean Bloch to schedule a consultation. Get in Balance today!
