Less is More. More is Less. Biostimulators with Sculptra and Blended Radiesse

While the quote “Less is more” originated with poet Robert Browning in 1855, it is most commonly agreed that architect and pioneer of Modernism Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) popularized the expression. Today we’re going to begin by exploring a procedure that takes this concept somewhat literally: Sculptra and blended Radiesse, a therapy that in some ways offers more results. Then we’ll turn the notion on its head and propose using blended Radiesse and turning it into what are known as biostimulators. We’ll go from “less is more” to “more is less” as this combined therapy results in less wrinkles, fewer lines and other long-lasting improvements.

First, let’s begin with blended Radiesse. For those that don’t know, Radiesse is a derma filler used to treat lines on the face while also stimulating the production of new collagen. Blended Radiesse uses this filler in a unique, almost counterintuitive way, by blending it with saline and lidocaine (a numbing agent) and then injecting into the skin at a more superficial level. The now blended Radiesse can successfully address skin texture and firmness, as well as improve fine wrinkles, crepeness, and acne scars. Blended Radiesse is also a great treatment for cellulite. In all, the improvements are visible and lasting, with new collagen and elastin growth as little as 4 weeks after the injection. Clients enjoy an immediate correction that is gradually followed by new tissue formation through neocollagenesis, elastin production, angiogenesis, and dermal cell proliferation.

Now let’s look at Sculptra. Sculptra is an injectable product but different from a traditional dermal filler that gives instant results. Sculptra works gradually and slowly to help build the underlying structure of the skin and rebuild collagen. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds. Sculptra works over time by stimulating natural collagen growth, which in turn improves the look of the skin. After treatment, you will not see peak results until about 6 months in, so be patient!

Biostimulators Sculptra and blended Radiesse are terrific stand-alone procedures for facial rejuvenation but, for extra assistance or for tightening/resurfacing harder-to-treat areas (such as the neck, upper arms, knees, abdomen, hands, buttocks and décolletage) I sometimes recommend a combination therapy that pairs the success of Sculptra and blended Radiesse with additional collagen stimulators like RF Microneedling. These collagen stimulators powerfully restore volume and bring a brighter, more youthful appearance because they improve laxity, increase thickness, and rehydrate the skin as they address creases, lines and folds, with results that last up to 2 years. Treated areas are stimulated to produce stronger collagen over time. This anti-aging treatment plan slows the aging process while improving the texture and firmness of the skin. It is effective, with minimal downtime, and you’ll see results in as little as 1-3 sessions.
