Smooth Sailing: RF Microneedling + IPL for Skin that Shines

Today let’s talk about the amazing things that happen when we combine two treatments: Radio Frequency Microneedling with Intense Pulsed Light therapy, more commonly known as IPL. This dual treatment addresses both skin texture concerns like wrinkles and scars as well as skin tone concerns such as discoloration, sunspots and broken veins. Let’s explore!

First, what is Radio Frequency Microneedling? Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, RF Microneedling is a non-laser procedure that utilizes very small needles to cause controlled “injury” to the skin, with micro punctures to the epidermal layer. This stimulates collagen production, improving the health and structure of new skin for a firmer, fresher appearance.

Next, what is IPL? Intense pulsed light therapy, often referred to as a photofacial, can non-invasively improve the color and tone of your skin. This non-laser procedure is almost like a photo flash, releasing light of varied wavelengths to decrease sun damage, hyperpigmentation and rosacea. After a few days, the dark spots begin to separate and flake, revealing an even and beautiful tone.

The combined effort of these two procedures looks like this: after the skin is cleansed, IPL is performed first. We use a handheld device to deliver the flashes of broad-spectrum light. Pigment cells in the deep layers of your skin will absorb the light energy. Here we can target specific areas and heat will immediately draw any dark spots to the top layer of the skin. A microneedling device is then passed over to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, improve texture, diminish scars and provide a natural glow to the skin.

We like to call the combination of RF Microneedling and IPL the bomb of treatments. Combining these powerful technologies gives you the most amazing skin rejuvenation available. The combination of RF Microneedling and IPL can also be customized to meet individual needs. For example, patients with darker skin tones may benefit from a lower IPL energy, while those with deeper wrinkles may require more RF energy during Microneedling. Expect to see dramatic improvements in your skin's texture, tone and appearance.

While it depends on the severity of the targeted areas, for best results we typically recommend 3 treatments spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. Downtime approximately 24-48hrs. To learn more about combining these two powerful treatments, book a consultation.
